The handover took place on Friday, November 21, 2025, under the supervision of the Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency (KSPHCA). The donation was formally presented to the state government by Dr. Mustapha Shehu, Chairman of the Red Cross in Katsina State.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the state government, Dr. Shamsuddeen Yahaya, represented by Pharmacy Officer Badamasi Sani, expressed appreciation for the timely support, which he said would enhance ongoing initiatives to curb malnutrition and its deadly effects on children.
Speaking during the handover, Dr. Mustapha Shehu noted that the donation was aimed at supporting the Katsina State Government’s effort to combat malnutrition, especially following reports of over 160 child deaths in the state due to severe malnutrition.
The Red Cross delivered a total of 4,117 packs of therapeutic food, with each pack containing 150 sachets, amounting to 617,550 sachets in total.
Pharmacy Officer Badamasi Sani, in his remarks, thanked the Red Cross for the donation, stressing that it would play a crucial role in the state’s ongoing efforts to reduce the spread of malnutrition.
Officials from the State Nutrition and Food Security Agency, led by Hajiya Rukkaya, and representatives from KSPHCA assured that strict monitoring would be in place to ensure that the supplies reach the intended beneficiaries promptly and effectively.
The donation was handed over at the main storage facilities in Katsina, located along the road to the State Auditor’s office, before being distributed to various health centers across the state.
